On Saturday 2nd November 2024, Dorset COP took place on Bournemouth University’s Talbot Campus.

For the event, I was Media Manager, co-leading the media coverage of the event.

My counterpart, Megan Rigby (Station Manager, Nerve TV), and I hired a crew of 35 students across Media, TV & Film Production, and Journalism courses. With the help of Libby Marchant, we booked out over 21 cameras to cover live talks, seminars and workshops across the campus, all within the two weeks before the event.

We also had a team of editors working live at the event, who rose to the challenge of turning around videos for social media with very little time before they needed to be posted. You can see the vox pops reel they put together below or on Instagram.

As this was a live event, content management was a concern for me in the planning stages. As all of the crew were BU students, I used Microsoft 365 to create a SharePoint site to host all of the footage recorded at the event. Having it on SharePoint added an extra level of content security, as it was only accessible to people with an @bournemouth.ac.uk email address. I also developed my own coding system to quickly identify which talk or session each piece of content belonged to. This was very handy when communicating with our editors over WhatsApp, as it sped up all of our communication with them.

It was a really great event and I’m so proud of everyone who worked in our crew.
